There are seven rules savvy branders apply to their daily work. Why? It keeps them focused, balanced and highly functioning. Some call 7 the number of perfection.
There’s nothing wrong with that! And while these rules are related to a DO SOMETHING brand, they’re good rules of thumb to follow no matter what.
- You cannot be all things to all people. Stop trying.
- Start where you can start. If you feel stuck trying to start at the beginning, start with an element you know you can tackle. Then go back and work on the other pieces.
- Research matters. Don’t just rely on your gut. It might steer you wrong.
- There’s no such thing as perfect. Launch with a minimum viable product and keep improving.
- Marketing is not an island. You cannot do this alone, so engage colleagues and outside resources or you will flare out.
- Enduring brands, like Rome, were not built in a day. To do something magnificent, you must put in the time.
- There will always be haters. There’s not much you can do about them. So ignore them and don’t let them tarnish your glow.
